El Nido, Palawan—Some fifty (50) grown and thirty (30) juvenile locally-extinct Philippines’ true native giant clam (Tridacna gigas) were transferred from Malampaya Sound Protected Landscape and Seascape (MSPLS) in Taytay, Palawan to a strict protection zone in Teneguiban in El Nido.
The move was an effort to commence expansion and testing appropriate restocking areas for the species to support its long-term presence and survival, as well as support health of reefs in wider geographical zones.
